Annuloplasty rings are used in heart valve repair surgeries. These annuloplasty rings are desidned to restore the anatomical size and shape of the heart valve. Annuloplasty rings are also used to help prevent recurrent heart valve dialation.
What is an Annuloplasty Ring Made of?
Annuloplasty rings are generally made up of a solid titanium core. The titanium provides strength and durability to the annuloplasty ring. Around the solid titanium core is a polyester knit sewing ring. This polyester knit sewing ring helps to anchor the annuloplasty ring to the valves annulous.
Annuloplasty Ring Shapes
Annuloplasty rings are made in the shape of both the tricuspid and mitral valves. An annuloplasty ring for a mitral valve is kidney shaped, where the ring would be oval if it were for a tricuspid valve.
MiCardia DynaplastyŽ Technology — Dynamic Annuloplasty Rings
Dynaplasty technology allows intra-operative and post-operative changes to the shape and the size of the annuloplasty ring. This can be done while viewing the annuloplasty ring adjustment of geometry in real time using an echo (ultrasound). By using MiCardia's Dynaplasty Technology, these adjustments can be made with additional invasive surgery. To find out more about MiCardia Dynaplasty Technology click here.
