Technology

MiCardia has developed an array of advanced annuloplasty rings which may be adjusted dynamically after they are surgically placed in either the mitral valve annulus and/or tricuspid valve annulus position(s).

The technology allows changes to the shape and the size of the annuloplasty ring while viewing the modifications in real time via echo (ultrasound), without requiring additional invasive surgery.

The Dynamic Annuloplasty Rings include semi-rigid and rigid shapes for the treatment of regurgitant valves with various etiologies.  Three methods of dynamic activation are currently under development by MiCardia: intra-operative activation; percutaneous activation catheter; non-invasive external energy field activation.

The intra-operative method of activation is used “off-pump” for repair optimization or to treat residual regurgitation. The percutaneous method is used post surgery when mitral regurgitation (MR) re-occurs in ischemic mitral regurgitation.  The non-invasive activation method is used in re-occurring MR.
