Paul Molloy

Paul Molloy,
CEO, Board Member

Paul Molloy began his career as a CRNA practicing in The Netherlands before joining Datascope Corporation in New Jersey in 1989, where he managed the international Cardiac Assist business. He has progressed through senior management positions at Baxter CVG (now Edwards), US Surgical Corporation (now part of Covideon) and Radiance Medical Systems (a NASDAQ listed company), which merged with Endologix in 2002. In February 2003 Paul was appointed President and Managing Director at LMA International N.V, and was instrumental in the 2005 initial public offering of the firm at a market capitalization in excess of $300 million. Paul has almost twenty years of medical device experience in large corporations and venture-funded businesses at the Board level. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Samuel Shaolian

Samuel Shaolian,
Co-Founder, Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Shaolian is an experienced executive with over 25 years of experience leading various medical device companies. He was a founder and President of Vertelink Corporation, a company that developed a pioneering minimally invasive spinal surgery that was acquired by Medtronic, Inc. in November 2003. After the acquisition of Vertelink by Medtronic, Mr. Shaolian co-founded Micardia Corporation, developing novel approaches in the field of dynamic cardiovascular implants.

Mr. Shaolian is a co-founder and board member of Onset Medical Corp. and Ellipse Technologies, Inc. Ellipse is developing breakthrough approaches for the treatment of GERD, obesity, and spine. Earlier in his career, he held executive positions as Vice President of R&D at Endologix, Inc. and Cardiodyne, Inc. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Masters degree in Bio-Medical Engineering from Tel-Aviv University, Israel. Mr. Shaolian is inventor or co-inventor of over 100 issued or pending U.S. patents.

Ross Tsukashima

Ross Tsukashima,
Director of Engineering and R&D

Ross Tsukashima has a proven record of accomplishments in the medical field. He has over 20 years of experience in developing products for Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Neurological, G.I. and General Surgery. Mr. Tsukashima has held senior management positions in new product development for medical device start ups and Fortune 500 medical device companies such as Baxter International and Medtronic. Mr. Tsukashima has developed superior technology which earned him several awards from Business Week, Frost and Sullivan and Popular Science publications. He has over 25 patents both issued and pending. Mr. Tsukashima earned his B.S. in Engineering from CSU Long Beach, California.

Jeffrey DuMontelle

Jeffrey DuMontelle,
Director of RA, QA and Compliance

Jeffrey DuMontelle began his medical device career in 1982 with American Hospital Supply Corporation, where he developed manufacturing processes for intraocular lenses and transferred them to Puerto Rico. As an R&D engineer at Shiley Laboratories he supported cardiopulmonary products and was directly responsible for the transfer of the Stöckert and Dideco product lines from Europe to the U.S. As Engineering Manager at Medtronic Heart Valves, Mr. DuMontelle led the integration of the Hancock and Intact product lines, and was a key member of the team that developed and gained FDA approval for the first stentless heart valve. Prior to joining MiCardia, Mr. DuMontelle held Director-level positions in Quality Assurance, Operations and R&D at 3F Therapeutics. Mr. DuMontelle holds a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa and an MBA from the University of California-Irvine. He holds two issued patents and has a number of patent filings currently in prosecution.

Al Diaz

Al Diaz,
Director of Operations

Mr. Diaz has over 25 years of experience in medical device manufacturing and operations, including heart valves, lasers and fiber optic delivery systems for cardiovascular applications. Mr. Diaz started his career in Quality Assurance in 1977 with Shiley Surgical Division (later Pfizer). Mr. Diaz has significant corporate experience in senior management operations in large and small firms including Baxter (now Edwards); Advanced Interventional Systems (merged with Spectranetics); Laerdal USA; Biolase Technology and Sorin Biomedica, Italy (where he lived for 2 years). Mr. Diaz has consulted for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as Interim Trustee, Medtronic/Baxter (Avecor Blood Pump System technology transfer). He served as a Board member for Cardiac Output Technologies, Inc. (formerly Polycomp Services) and as Managing Director of Polycomp Investment Group LLC. Mr. Diaz holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of LaVerne and a two year certificate program in World Class Operations from the University of California-Irvine.

Jody L. Errandi

Jody L. Errandi,
Director of Clinical Affairs

Jody L. Errandi began her career as a researcher developing protocols using DNA analysis for casework for the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services. She was able to utilize her work with the ISP, in conjunction with the FBI, for her master's thesis, which focused on conducting DNA analysis that helped develop mitochondrial DNA databases for the FBI for use in determining profile frequencies for casework analysis. She then began developing and managing pharmaceutical and device clinical research protocols for vascular indications at SIU School of Medicine Department of Vascular Surgery in Springfield, Illinois, working with protocols developed by companies such as Medtronic, W.L. Gore and Associates, Endologix, Astrazeneca, and United Therapeutics. After working at SIU, Jody managed clinical studies for W.L. Gore and Associates in Flagstaff, Arizona, which focused on aortic aneurysm repair devices. She was also a member of the team that gained FDA approval for the SFA endoprosthesis. Jody was then offered a position in California to work at ATS Medical (formerly 3F Therapeutics) to manage clinical trials for aortic valve replacement devices and was a key member of the team that developed and gained FDA approval for the first stentless pericardial heart valve. Prior to coming to MiCardia, Jody managed the research program at the Hoag Heart Valve Center in Newport Beach, California. In conjunction with her professional career, Jody has taught biology courses at universities in Illinois, Arizona, and California. She currently teaches Clinical Data Management and Applied Anatomy and Physiology in the Clinical Trials Certification program at University of California, Irvine. Jody holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health and a Master of Science degree in biology, both from the University of Illinois.
